Atlanta – Feb 2016

LANDSIDE
No views from the terminal area. Around the perimeter it may be possible to find some spots close to the renaissance hotel.

AIRSIDE
Due to the size of this place its impossible to get everything. There are 6 concourses to explore and most of them have windows allowing most aircraft to be logged by walking up and down them. The best thing to do is probably set up at the very end of a concourse and watch the movements on the adjacent runways.

HOTELS
The Renaissance Concourse hotel is situated right next to the airport with fantastic views over two runways and the whole airport. A lot of planes parked on gate can be read off and traffic moving on the far taxiways can be logged if visibility is ok. They have multiple rooms with views so it shouldn’t be a problem and they all have a balcony. Its expensive but worth it. If your not staying here you could always go and sit in the bar on the ground floor. There are still excellent views of the nearby runways and terminals from here.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Delta, Delta, Delta, Delta, Delta, Delta and regular flights by the other usual carriers.

Tip – Delta Heritage Museum is located at the Delta Headqauarters on Delta Boulevard which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. You have to email the museum before you go so they can put you on the list to get past security. A fuselage section of N1011 Prototype Tristar is used as the museum shop and N102DA B767 can be found here. The shop has lots of Delta memorabilia at really cheap prices.

Peachtree De Kelb

Atlantas main Biz airport. Located to the north of the city and to get there from the main airport you have to drive through the city. Its only 20 miles away but it still took me over an hour at midday because the freeways were so busy. Most things can be seen by driving around and they even have small viewing area here with good views of the runway and some of the ramp.

Fulton County

Another Biz airport on the west side of the city with several smaller biz present.

Macon - Octr 2018

About 80 miles south east on the way to Savannah. Mid Georgia regional airport is a bit of a detour off the highway and probably not worth the effort. However if you like military, a few miles down the road is Warner Robins AFB which has a large museum collection including Gulfstream N492JT.

Americus – Oct 2018

South Georgia Tech college is located here with Gulfstream N41AV and Learjet N483DM.

Savannah – Oct 2018

Home of Gulfstream. They have two facilities on either side of the airport and by driving around its possible to get a fair number of them. I logged 24. Not worth hanging around here though as its pretty quiet otherwise. There wasn’t much on the production side on this visit. It seems they now have a facility in Huntsville, Alabama where a recent log had about 15 noted.

Griffin – Atlanta Air Salvage – Feb 2016

About 45 minutes south of Atlanta. There is a scrapyard here with a number of fuselages, mostly smaller stuff but there are a few Biz including Gulfstream N901WG. You can see everything from the fenceline but most can’t be identified. It may be possible to gain access during business hours.

Montgomery – Feb 2016

MTW Aerospace have a facility just west of the airport. Theres probably a couple of hundred fuselages here. Mostly smaller stuff but a Gulfstream, several E120’s and Multiple B1900’s remain. Also a couple of Satena D328s. Apparently they are not very friendly so I turned up on the weekend. From the fenceline along the front of the facility and on the western side you can get some good views. However most of the fuselages are packed tightly together and can’t be identified. It may be possible to get views from the eastern side but it seemed pretty dense with trees and there was a residential property there so didn’t wander through.
