GLOBAL SPOTTING REPORTS
CHILE
Santiago – Feb 2019
LANDSIDE
Not sure. Years ago there was a seating area upstairs with good views. Most of the gates were hidden but all movements could be seen.
AIRSIDE
Lots of windows and no problem seeing all movements. They seem to use one runway for arrivals and one for departures so all traffic will pass in front of you at some point. I transited through the international and all international gates and some domestic could be seen.
HOTELS
There is now a holiday inn at the airport but judging by reports there are no views of the ramp. It faces away from the terminal and you will only get distant views of the approach or climb out either side of you on the parallel runways. Sounds like SBS would be needed if you wanted to spot from here and may be beneficial for nighttime spotting.
WHAT TO EXPECT
LAN dominate along with Sky Airlines and Jetsmart. Aerocardel operate there Dorniers from here and the Chilean Air force have a base here.
Don’t expect to see everything. LAN have several bases all over South America and it seemed like a lot of those based in Chile didn’t turn up either. A lot depart very early and don’t return till the afternoon.
A few Sky B737’s remain in storage but its difficult to identify them.
A seat on the right side for arrival or left for departure is your best chance of seeing the military ramp
