GLOBAL SPOTTING REPORTS
AZERBAIJAN
Baku – Jul 2018
LANDSIDE
Not been landside but by all accounts security is tight here and its hard to get a visa so probably not worth trying
AIRSIDE
A brand new terminal has opened this place up a bit and both runways are now used meaning theres a chance you will arrive or depart past the exec and storage ramp. The problem is they used both runways in both directions when I was there so its impossible to know which side of the plane to sit on. Either way have your camera ready to try and identify stuff.
Good views from the terminal. Most stuff on stand can be eyeballed. Some of the E190s parked remote so you had to keep an eye on them moving to read them as they park at an angle. This is not a place I would risk using binoculars or camera from what I’ve heard.
HOTELS
There is a Sheraton at the airport and some rooms have a view. Be careful though, they may ask to see you camera and laptop.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Very Quiet in terms of actual movements. First thing you might see all 6 E190s before they depart and return in the afternoon.
Air Astana operate E190’s here.
Azerbaijan have quite a few government and executive jets. Several should be parked but you will need to arrive or depart past them to identify them.
Same for the stored aircraft. At the time 3 IL76s, 2 T154s and an AN12.
Azerbaijan Airlines now offer connecting flights making this place a lot more accessible. I booked Istanbul - Dubai.
