Denver – Nov 2015

LANDSIDE

None from the terminal area. The multi storey car parks look like they would have decent views. You wouldn’t get everything would do ok. Most of the Frontier aircraft park on this side of the concourse. This place is massive though with runways on all sides and very far away.

AIRSIDE

Decent views from all three concourses. You just have to pick a spot and do the best you can. I like the end of Concourse A on the east side where Great Lakes park. In my experience they generally land on the east side of the airport and depart on the west. From here you will see all arrivals on one runway, and whatever arrivals on the other runway taxi to Concourse A and this side of Concourse B. You should see a lot if not most of the United movements from here.

When you go through security be sure to take the bridge to concourse A for excellent views of the Frontier stands. You can then get the underground train towards concourses B and C and back again.

HOTELS

Westin have just opened a brand new hotel within the airport complex. Rates start at over $250 per night. The website advertises airport view but its unclear what room types to book. Some room rates advertise premium views. I assume this means the airport? These rooms cost a bit more. Any reports welcome.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Frontier are based here but seem to be changing there business model. They are doing a lot more point to point services from other destinations meaning its no longer possible to see most of there fleet here. You can still expect a good chunk though. They park on concourse A.

Great Lakes also have a large base with many B1900s and E120s parked at the end of concourse A

United are the main carrier monopolizing concourse B.

Southwest also have a large number of flights and are the main carrier for concourse C.

Key Lime Air also have several flights but don’t park in the concourse area. They are somewhere out of sight to the south of the terminal area so you have to keep an eye out for them.

Two B727’s remain WFU here and can be seen from Concourse C.

DIA-001 (N7285U) and N192FE

Denver Centennial Airport – About 30 miles away. There should be plenty of Biz here and supposedly the home of Key Lime Air. I didn’t visit but worth considering if you have time.

Salt Lake City – Nov 2015

LANDSIDE

None from within the terminal area. The multi storey provides good views of both runways and most gates. All movements should be seen.

AIRSIDE

Once airside its possible to move around all the piers. Finding a spot at the end of one of the piers is probably best to try and see all movements. There is a runway either side of the terminal area and they use both for arrivals and departures so you have to try and keep an eye on both sides.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Another Delta hub that has seen reduced numbers. Still if you haven’t been here before you can expect a good number of regional jets. Very little of anything else. In four hours I saw a couple of Frontier and Horizons and the odd flight by the other major airlines. Worth transiting through but I wouldn’t plan for too much time here.
