JORDAN

Amman – Apr 2010

LANDSIDE

No views from the terminal area. whether there are views around the perimeter I don’t know but it could be worthwhile to try and see the stored aircraft. However its another place that you don’t want to get caught spotting in.

AIRSIDE

There are 2 terminals and when airside its possible to walk between both. One terminal has some views upstairs of this runway. The other terminal has a similar upstairs area but this is occupied by a lounge overlooking this runway. I asked nicely and they let me peek out of the window for a minute. Unfortunately no views of stored aircraft from here.

HOTELS

Don’t think there are any hotels here, its located quite far from the city.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Very little apart from Royal Jordanian but could be worthwhile if you need the E170/190’s. The old Iraqi stuff that had been derelict here since the gulf war in the 90’s appears to have now been broken up looking on google earth but some stored aircraft remain.

A left seat for departure and right seat for arrival will be your best chance of a good view and hope you use the runway they are parked next to. You can still see them from the other runway but views are very poor, at least you should see them though.

The following may still be present:

J2-KCE B732 Silver Air

J2-SRS B732 Silver Air

SU-YAK B727

JY-HS1 B727

N300AW L10

JY-SGI L10

Several other aircraft were parked / WFU around the hangers but unless you are lucky enough to taxi past them you are unlikely to identify them unless you could find a spot on the perimeter. I managed to identify the above by comparing the colourschemes of what I saw with photo’s of aircraft reported to be WFU here.

Tip – There is another airport in the city centre called Al Marka. Havent been here and no idea on spotting conditions. I believe there is a tristar WFU here if it remains. Mostly used by military and biz along with some charters.
