GLOBAL SPOTTING REPORTS
HOLLAND
Amsterdam – Jul 2016
LANDSIDE
The viewing deck is still open, although greatly reduced and only has views of the central piers now. Given there are runways on either side of the airport some stuff may be missed although most planes will taxi past on arrival or departure.
The McDonalds along the perimeter close to the Runway 27 threshold has a viewing area and again most movements should be seen from here.
Schiphol East is further down the road from the McDonalds and is where the Biz park.
AIRSIDE
If your flying Easyjet they have there own little terminal with very limited views. Otherwise the other terminals can be walked around freely with good views.
HOTELS
The Ibis and Ibis budget hotels are located next to each other. I don’t think any rooms would have views but they are only 5 mins walk from the McDonalds and provide shuttle buses to the airport.
WHAT TO EXPECT
KLM obviously dominate proceedings along with a good chunk of the Transavia fleet. A good mix of European and long haul flights keeps this place interesting.
Cargo is quite busy with regular flights by Chinese carriers, Volga Dnepr, Lan and middle eastern carriers.
PH-NIV F27 is preserved here. Can only be seen from the perimeter road further along from Schiphol East.
ROC Engineering college is located off airport in Hoofddorp. They have an ex Aerolineas Argentinas B732 LV-LEB / PH-ROC and a J31 PH-HAN inside there hanger. The doors were open and I could drive right upto it.
Other Airports of Interest:
Lelystad – There is a museum here containing quite a bit of stuff including an old KLM B747, F50 PH-OSI in Fokker cls and NLM F27 PH-FHF.
Teuge – IL18 DDR-STD is preserved
Breda – Stolwerk Metal have a F100 that was never put into service. Its located at there yard in the middle of town and parked on top of a container.
