PERU

Lima – Apr 2015

LANDSIDE

No views from the terminal. However the hotel next to the terminal has views. If your not staying at the hotel just take the lift to the top floor and there are windows with the same view as the rooms provide. All movements can be seen. The main road out alongside the airport has some overhead walkways which allow you to see over the wall and local spotters have taken photos somewhere on the approach. However, I’ve heard security are not very nice here so your probably better off not risking it.

Airport layout.

To the right ( north ) of the terminal you firstly have the Army ramp, LAN hanger and then the Air Force Ramp which has a storage compound behind the hanger.

To the left ( south ) of the terminal you have Cargo, the Police Ramp and then the Naval Ramp which also contained several other Peruvian aircraft including AN32s, F50s and B146s amongst others.

There are no views of these ramps except from the plane window on arrival and departure.

AIRSIDE

Airside is still fine with window views all the way along the terminal. However not so easy at night as you are looking through two pains of glass and the reflection is bad. Only aircraft parked on stand can be identified.

A left seat for arrival will just give you views of the storage compound before they disappear behind the hanger. However my photo's are too distant to get the remaining registrations I need.

A right seat for arrival may give you views of the police ramp if you take the last runway exit. They have 4 AN32's amongst others usually parked.

A right seat for departure will taxi you past the Army and Air Force ramps. Only 2 AN32's parked on the air force ramp this time and there regs are so small you probably won't get them. Army Ramp normally has 1 or 2 AN32's, 1 or 2 AN28's and possibly a B1900 parked up.

A left seat for departure may give views of the Police and Naval ramps depending on how soon you take off.

HOTELS

Hotel Costa Del Sol – Connected to the terminal. Previously reported to only have three floors. It has seven. However I think they use the higher floors for crew only. At first they wouldn't give me higher than the second and wouldn't let me check in early. After a quick word with the manager explaining I had a meeting with Air Traffic Control and needed to see the aircraft I had a room on the sixth floor. Any room with an even number will do. The windows are small but all movements on the runway can be seen along with partial taxiway views. If your not staying here then there are windows next to the lifts which give partial views of the runway. Internet didn't work on the higher floors. Its too dark at night to get anything unless you rely on sbs.

WHAT TO EXPECT

LAN dominate along with Avianca. Peruvian and Star have regular flights and there are a few interesting flights from neighbouring countries. Best time is in the morning with a large arrival push around 730 – 930 with them all departing by 1130. Rest of the day is quiet until around 8pm onwards. However its dark by then and not easy to get most things. Mostly repeats from the morning but a few new things. Expect too see around 25 LAN’s or more and upto 15 Avianca’s.

Storage Compound adjacent to runway 15 threshold, behind the Air Force hangers:

13 Aero Continente aircraft where still present - These appear to be identical to the 13 aircraft I saw in 2009.

3 F28’s:

OB-1750-P Nuevo Continente ( Red and White cls )

OB-1779-P Aero Continente

OB-1780-P Aero Continente

7 B737’s

OB-1723         A/W - title + logo can be made out where its painted over

OB-1746-P      Aero Continente

OB-1764-P      Aero Continente

OB-1783-P      Aero Continente

OB-1751-P      Aero Continente

OB-1544-P      Nuevo Continete ( Red and White cls )

OB-1742-P      Air Guinee ( Blue and white cls same as 3C-LQC )

3 B727’s: All where in full Aero Continente cls in 2009, at least 2 of them had Aerocontinente markings in 2015.

OB-1570-P      Aero Continente

No Reg            Aero Continente

No Reg            Aero Continente

Likely candidates for the other 2 are OB-1546-P which was photographed in 2004 with the same group of aircraft and is reported WFU and OB-1588-P which is also reported WFU but can’t find any photo’s. The only other option I can find is OB-1601-P which is reported to have been broken up.

OB-1738-P was photographed in A/W cls by 2004 and all others I can find have been reported broken up elsewhere or moved on to another operator.

Any confirmation welcome?

A Report from October 2019 reported 11 of them excluding OB-1723 and OB-1779-P.

Other Aircraft in the compound:

FAP350 B732 Peruvian Air Force

2 Peruvian Air Force AN32’s – reported to be 322 and 367 in 2014

I took a walk down Avenue de Faucett towards the air force base. This takes you past several aircraft which have been preserved by the side of the road. High walls surround the air force base with only tops of the tails visible. From a few holes in the walls I could see 2 of the F28’s with my eyes but that was it.

At the other end of the airport abeam the runway 33 starter strip and south of the Navy ramp:

N22134 B727 derelict but mostly intact.

OB-1650-P AN24 in full cls of its previous owner.

There are then 4 B727 fuselage’s with the third engine cowling remaining but the rest of the tail and wings chopped off.

N65910

N65894

N134CA

N133CA - This fourth fuselage is visible on google earth but was obstructed by a building. I assume it to be this from previous photos of these four aircraft parked together.

Unless you can get access you are unlikely to see these. The only chance is a left seat for departure but even then you are likely to climb too high to see them.

Navy Ramp:

Several aircraft stored here. The Navy aircraft frustratingly have either no markings or very small markings that I couldn’t find, with the exception of AE567 F50. 2 other F60’s where present. At least 2 of the F27's and possibly all 3. The third tail looked in poor condition and just a peru flag on it. Not sure if its a Naval aircraft or not

Also present in the Naval ramp area:

AN72 tail could be seen – A/W very dirty, Assumed to be FAP-398 – a photo exists from 2006 and is the only AN72 I can find for Peru .

OB-2016-P        B727  TCA titles - possible C/N19912 - confirmation?

OB-1627           F27 – Assumed from photo’s – white and red scheme with UAP titles.

OB-1693           F27 – Assumed from photo’s – Full Aero Condor cls but very dirty and faded.

OB-2043-P        F50 Atsa cls – red and white scheme

OB-1770-P        F50 Assumed from photo’s – Atsa cls – red and white scheme

OB-1962-P        AN32 Atsa cls – blue and white scheme

OB-                 AN32 Atsa cls – red and white scheme – possible 1924-P from photo’s

2 AN32's with Completely blue tail - Possibly ATSA but can't find any photo's matching them?
