GLOBAL SPOTTING REPORTS
MALDIVES
Male – March 2020
LANDSIDE
No views from the terminal area. I’m not completely sure but I think if you want to go to the seaplane terminal you need a ticket.
There are reportedly views from the Hulhumale ferry terminal park which is to the north east of the airport. To get here you would need to take a ferry from Male or a taxi from the airport. Ferrys are the main way of getting around here and are therefore regular and cheap. They have only just built a bridge linking the airport to Male.
AIRSIDE
Good views from the international terminal and all movements including seaplane arrivals can be seen.
HOTELS
The Unima Grand on Male has a rooftop area with good views of the airport and probably has rooms with similar views. I was unable to stay here due to coronavirus restrictions.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At the time there were 16 based DHC8s and ATRs for domestic flights. Not all seen though with a couple parked at other airports and a few by the hangar. A few international flights from India and Sri Lanka as well as the Middle East and European charters make up the numbers. There will probably be a few Biz around. A right seat on arrival would be best for these. The main airport is not exactly busy but interesting and good scenery. The seaplanes will make up most of your numbers and these are in and out pretty regularly during the day.
