Budapest – Jan 2014

LANDSIDE

There is an Outside viewing area located at Terminal 2A. You have to buy a ticket from an automated machine. This only gives views of some stands but all movements should be seen. Distant views of stored aircraft and cargo can be had from here. However there is a glass fence that makes it difficult to get stuff. There was reportedly another veiwing area in terminal 2B but I couldn’t find it and suspect its been closed.

Outside the terminal you can find some views of a few gates on Terminal 2B along with views of this runway. This also leads down to the museum only a few hundred metres away. All aircraft are easily viewable without the need to enter. If you do enter the museum its possible to take a look inside some aircraft. Aircraft include:

HA-LCG  T154

HA-LBE T134

HA-MOA IL18

HA-MOG IL18

HA-YLR Y40

The perimeter offers very little. The hanger areas are all closed off to the public with no views of the stored aircraft from the main road. Terminal 1 is located after the hangers and dosent appear to be used anymore. There are some views of cargo from here along with a view of T154 HA-LCA which is WFU and can’t be seen from the viewing area. You would need a car to get here.

Further along from T1 a turning led me to a cargo area which offered good views of this runway and also a distant view of B732 N7376F which is used as a fire trainer and can’t be seen from the viewing area.

HA-LRA Y40 is also WFU here in the hanger area. It was visible in one of the few gaps driving down the main road between the hangers and T1.

AIRSIDE

Didn’t fly so not sure although pictures of the terminal look like there are good views.

HOTELS

Didn’t see one at the airport and you will most probably want to stay in the city and take a look around while you’re here.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Not a lot to see here now Malev have gone. Wizz have 6 or 7 aircraft based and ryanair have picked up some of the routes. Nice to pick up the old stuff that remains but not worth spending any time here. Vienna and Bratislava are only 250km away if you are driving.
